My musings on brightness and contrast in photos

I’ve just been watching a very interesting video by Serge Ramelli which describes the work of the legendary American photographer Ansel Adams. I just learnt that to make your black and white photo seem more three-dimensional you can add more contrast which will bring out the blacks and whites more. So, I’ve just tried it out on a photo…and I think it’s turned out really well. In the photo where I increased the contrast a fair amount (by using my corel software: using layers – adjustment layer – brightness/contrast) I notice that the woods seem to appear further away.

I’m also trying the ‘photo compare’ feature here in wordpress…so you just slide back and forth to get before and after shots. Cool!
